A 1.5
The whole of humanity is obsessed with representing itself in art. Consider the scenario of a child watching television on a sunny day versus one who is on a swing set in the yard. I can tell you that one of them refuses to be burdened by gravity.

A 1.4
It struck me one day that as visual creatures we hold beauty and inspiration in very high esteem. However where moving images are involved it is the exception that someone is willing to actively engage in the process of visually articulating beauty or inspiration in the absence of storyline. You require entertainment. I require entertainment. We are the consumers of it.

The thing about celebrity is that it’s ephemeral. That is to say, that’s the destination that the word creates for itself, to exist only in the moment. If you can document a performance without the encumbrance of expectation then you can begin to reflect on the event itself not in the present but as a part of the past. That is insight. That creates great performance.

First Commercial
I finished my first commercial assignment for Karl. This is the result:
There is a Paul Sharits exhibit in NYC next weekend. I will be attending. Here is the information:

Eiki SL-1
Today I purchased an Eiki SL1 on Ebay for the amazing price of $40 (including shipping). This is yet another 16mm test film I came across on YouTube. It’s purely inspirational.
Girl Versus Woman
Language erodes in tandem with history. It is a fact. I believe that in light of more pressing spectres such as a world war, bulldogs playing poker, and GM foods that this should not pose itself as society’s greatest preoccupation. However, it helps to bear the reminder that society inherits language. It is a benchmark for how well societies of the past have evolved, linguistically that is....
Advice
Andrei Tarkovsky gives a very well-stated opinion in this video:
This Lavender Moment
After my involvement with the Hexagon for the past 2 years the club has been awarded a Best Of placard from the city paper. It is a great accomplishment no doubt. However, it’s arrival has left me with a few considerations regarding image. The matter can be simplistically dealt into two rival camps. Business on one hand. Pleasure on the other hand. The whole entirety of the business venture...

An Hour of Kindness
This weekend more than one filming was completed. I had the opportunity to re-evaulate how I shot the first Hour of Kindness. The result, episode 2 of An Hour of Kindness, is much more satisfying than the pilot. Filming in a larger venue (my new church-house) brought in a ton of ambient light and atmosphere. The bands seemed to really enjoy the experience as much as their guests did. I would call...

I Don't Know What To Say (I'm Picking Out Days...
The worst moments in people’s lives are those which are so shocking they can only be described as surreal. The main people involved in the narrative are strangers. The supporting characters are phantoms. The bonds of trust and friendship are shattered with the points of an anchor swung by a shadow. I don’t know what to say so I’m picking out days again.

Holga 120 CFN
I took my bike to a nearby trail and shot stills with a Holga today. It was quite an experience. For those who know nothing about Holga you can find a brief history here. Many have claimed that the camera is a toy. Not having shot on one I assumed that the claim was a bit exaggerated. Shooting on the camera today I realized that the claims were spot on. That is however the magic of the Holga. It...

Form YX
During a recent moment of reflection I thought about truth. I attempted to grasp it in some tangible form. The problem with truth is that it is has no form and that it can never be what you wish it to be.
There is the truth of age. The prospect of aging has terrified people since they first became capable of observing the process. It is my experience that no one ever acts their age. Because of...
The Gaf ST 105
I recently picked up a Gaf ST 105 Super 8 camera. I’ve never heard of Gaf. I’m primarily a Canon Autozoom 814 user. That being said I was very pleased by the slim profile and lack of features. Its simply point and shoot. Comes standard with a Chinon reflex zoom lens and a slow motion mode. Below is a YouTube video of the camera shooting on Canon Vision 2 500T super 8 film stock:

The Director/Actor Relationship
There is an inevitable relationship that must exist between the director of a film and its actors. There is tension. There is hardship. These are all feelings that arise during the act of moving a project forward. They are inexorably human and absolutely necessary to the process. Here is an interview of Werner Herzog in which he speaks about his process of working with Klaus Kinski.
The Panasonic Lumix GH1
The existence of a new SLR stills camera was brought to my attention the other day. It is the Panasonic Lumix GH1. In addition to utlizing a new SLR-format called Micro Four Thirds, the camera itself is a complete feature-beast. It shoots in 1080p HD video and because it is an SLR it has the ability to use interchangeable lenses. Wow. Details below:
